Our History
Kandanga Cemetery is a place of history, remembrance and community connection, reflecting the lives and stories of generations of families from the Mary Valley district.
The cemetery has its origins in the early settlement of the area when the township was first known as Bunya Creek. Following the significant floods of 1893 and 1898, the township was relocated to higher ground, where the town of Kandanga developed. The cemetery has remained an important part of this community, providing a peaceful and respectful place for families to honour and remember their loved ones.
Over the years, the Kandanga Cemetery Association has worked to preserve and enhance the cemetery grounds through thoughtful planning, community involvement and ongoing improvements. The development of landscaped gardens, the Bunya Chapel and the RSL Memorial has created a special place that honours the past while providing facilities and spaces for future generations.
The cemetery continues to be cared for through the dedication of volunteers, community support and the generosity of local families and organisations. It remains a valued community asset — a place where history is preserved, memories are honoured and connections to the district’s past continue.
