About Us

Kandanga Cemetery

About Us

Kandanga Cemetery is a not-for-profit community organisation that has proudly served the Mary Valley region since the early 1900s. It provides a respectful and enduring place of rest for families throughout the region and continues to hold an important place in the community’s history and heritage.

The cemetery is managed by a dedicated volunteer committee of community members who oversee all aspects of the cemetery’s operation, maintenance and ongoing development. The committee is responsible for ensuring the cemetery remains well-managed, accessible and sustainable, with responsibilities including burial coordination, plot reservations, record keeping, liaison with families and funeral providers, and the planning and delivery of improvement projects.

Over the years, the Association has continued to invest in the future of Kandanga Cemetery through projects including the construction of the Bunya Chapel, development of landscaped gardens, and the creation of a dedicated memorial area honouring returned service men and women.

While working with Gympie Regional Council as the landowner, the Association independently manages the day-to-day operation and ongoing improvements of the cemetery through the commitment of its volunteers, community support and careful planning.

Our purpose is to preserve and develop Kandanga Cemetery as a place of honour, reflection, remembrance and care — ensuring it continues to serve the families of the Mary Valley for generations to come.
